Just wanted to post my story, I discovered Joel and Whyquit.com over 2 years ago and have become a serious student! Watching his videos reading his blogs and forums and educating myself in the facts of Nicotine addiction and all the pitfalls and harm from the smoking lifestyle, I also have almost memorized Freedom from Nicotine, the Journey Home by Joe Polito. In short working a PHD in Smoking.
I am on my 5th quit and all have lasted 2-3 months but looking back I realize the weak link has been due to my work schedule and other habits. I work overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan and have for several years, working 3-4 month's in country then out for 2-3 weeks vacation. Sounds like a great schedule but 12-16 hour days 7 days a week, vacation is earned, anyway the trouble starts when on vacation- Leaving out of country there is a lot of hurry up and wait and then the alcohol which we don't have in country and my weakness has always been a cocktail and a smoke! Everyone says how can you quite so easy and why do you start again? I tell them mind over these little white sticks and laugh at them for being weak!! Actually knowing what a challenge it is to go through a quit every 3 months! Well this time is different, My location has changed and here in Africa the alcohol is here and the freedom to drink when of the clock- this quit has been the hardest! Now I'm at day 29 and a few hours till 1 month and Green and I'm going to make it! I'm free of Marlboro Country for ever! When I get back to see friends and family I can sit inside with friends and family have a cocktail and not have to go outside away from them, actually be normal and and not tobaco dependant freak!! I'm going to make it this time! 14 hrs to go!!!!
