Hi Nancy,
"Change the way you think and change your life" was something that a guy named Roger wrote in Quitting With A Possitive Attitude that helped me greatly when I first started reading here. Here's a companion Roger writing - To Smoke, Quit Or Relapse Is Just A Decision Away!
Another article that really clicked with me was Joel's I Can't Quit or I Won't Quit. Really saw myself in that one too.
image But if you really want to shift the smoking paradigm to seeing yourself as an addict and ex-smoker then it requires us to 'take off the Emperor's' clothes and begin to get in the habit of replacing the word "cigarette" with "nicotine". We are not quitting cigarettes as much as we are getting rid of nicotine - a non essential and very harmful addictive chemical compound.
You can work thru this - no matter your age of how long you used nicotine to satisfy your dependency. My Dad said no more at age 88 after 75 years locked in the cycle of nicotine addiction dependency. He's two years 2 months free today, fighting a cancerous tumor in his right lung and I can guarantee you he does not wish or want for 'a smoke'. He want very much to see his 90th birthday and know very well that sucking in the smoke from a tobacco cigarette will not help him get there. You'll get to where the idea of inhaling tobacco smoke has no place in your life. We all ger there eventually......as long as we keep reading, learning and living nicotine free - as we were always supposed to be - ourselves.
