Thanks for all the support everyone!

I got into a "quitting" discussion today. I was at a bar with some classmates, celebrating after our final presentations. It was really strange...about half the people in my class got out cigarettes in the bar. I would never have guessed that they were all smokers!

Somebody asked if I wanted one and I proudly said "no thanks." However, I did mention that I had recently quit. A couple people seemed really interested in how I managed to do it. It's funny because it seems like a lot of smokers I have talked to even in the last week have asked me specifically about how I quit. I guess a lot of smokers are planning on quitting but just lack the tools to do so.

Anyway, I saw a chance to advertise this website and I did! But mainly, I told them about the logic behind it...I didn't just say, "there is this website, blah blah blah." There are a lot of websites but this one is important so I mentioned it by name.

Several people said, "Oh I've quit a lot of times in the past, but I always go back." I told them that I also faced the same difficulties in the past, but secretly I was chuckling to myself. I knew the exact reason they had all relapsed - they had taken nicotine!

They also didn't understand at first how a website could help them quit. I think this is because we are conditioned to believe that only nicotine gum or hypnosis will work, and that quitting cold turkey is "too hard" for all but a select few. Luckily the truth is the complete opposite!

I explained to them that at first being a smoker is like being stuck in The Truman Show. As time goes by, you get curious about why you do the things you do, or why your life is a certain way. Something seems wrong, but you aren't sure what it is. When you finally figure out that your life is being controlled from behind the scenes by a drug (or a crazy guy), your perception of yourself instantly changes. You realize the truth and this is what enables you to overturn the addiction.

I have been quit for 10 days.
I have saved $40.01 by not smoking 200 cigarettes.
