Welcome to Freedom Amy! Most of us lived in a world where we once thought that smoking nicotine defined who we were ... because it did. As harsh as it sounds, we were and are drug addicts Amy, and as such we had no choice but to redefine our behavior in order to make it acceptable. The feedings were not optional but mandatory. The final leg of this amazing journey home will be punctuated by conscious thoughts about wanting to smoke that have us facing years and years of our own smoking rationalizations, minimizations and blame transference. We're each forced to confront the mountain of lies that we fed ourselves in order to justify that next fix. Nicotine Addiction 101 "Nicodemon's" Lies? The Joy of Smoking What did you love about smoking? Tearing Down the Wall What should I call myself, ex-smoker or non-smoker? I wish it was just a nasty little habit It may seem bad enough that we are admitting to true chemical dependency but with that admission should come the realization that we have each engaged in years of intellectual dishonesty. Many here denied chemical captivity. Few saw themselves in the same light as an alcoholic, heroin addict or those addicted to crystal meth. You're reading the words of a real live honest to goodness drug addict, Amy. Although I arrested my dependancy almost seven years ago, and have not experienced anything you'd consider a crave or urge since 2001, you and I are equals in both remaining just one powerful puff of nicotine away from initiating full and complete relapse. Staying on this side of the bars requires adherence to just one rule, Amy ...no nicotine just one day at a time, Never Take Another Puff! Be proud of you, Amy, you've come far. We're with you in spirit. Breathe deep, hug hard, live long, John (Gold x6)
