Hi Kristie,
Congratulations on 16 days of nicotine free living. Your question is very straightfoward and to someone else it may seem like what you describe is logical. You are asking how to deal with what you perceive as the habit of smoking in between each task that you accomplished or using smoking as a reward as you put it. But we never smoked out of habit Kristie, we smoked because we are addicted to nicotine. Your reward was withdrawl prevention, nothing more.
You may feel like you are moving around in a fog with no real direction because you are moving around in a fog with no real direction. You are learning to live again without inhaling tobacco smoke on a regular basis to maintain a comfortable blood serum nicotine level. Some people get up and go for a short walk in between tasks, others may have a cup of tea or stand up and look out the window, go run an errand perhaps or have a snack. Active nicotine addicts however, have no time for any of those things, they must replenish their nicotine supply - That takes precedent over anything else.
Good question. Don't worry, as the sun rises it burns off the fog. Things will clear up as long as you never take another puff. You may have already read these but you asked for some reading suggestions, so here they are.
