Paula,
Congratulations on making the decision to rid your body and life of nicotine.  The first few days can be hard...your body is adjusting to no nicotine and your mind has to start dealing with triggers to squelch the urges.   The physical addiction goes away fairly quickly, but the psychological addiction can be quite strong.  We all have had to learn how to deal with life without nicotine.  All those times you thought nicotine was calming you, relieving stress,  keeping you from getting angry, etc....what was really happening was your nicotine level was low and the "relief" you felt was nothing more than you replenishing your nicotine level.  Helping you with the psychological addiction is where the education on WhyQuit and in Joel's videos will guide you through your journey.

Some suggestions: (these are things that really helped me in the beginning)
  • Read everything you can...watch all the videos...read other people's journals
  • When the urges hit..take deep breaths..stay in the moment...understand that the feeling will pass.
  • Make a list of why you quit nicotine...keep that list with you and take it out and read it when things get rough
  • Most importantly, be determined....do not give up
  • Believe things will get easier.. (they will!)
I wish you success on your journey.

Kathy
