In Ireland, I smoked Silk Cut Purples because that's what my friends smoked there.
I'd also partake in the odd Rothman's or Benson and Hedges if that was what was available.
When I moved back to the States, I smoked Marlboro Light soft pack because that's what my grandmother smoked. Hated the taste at first, but got used to it.
Later, I switched to Marlboro Light hard packs because that's what they gave me in the shops if I didn't specify soft, and I got sick of clarifying myself.
I tried the Extra Lights or Ultra Lights or whatever Marlboro had in a silver pack for a little while, but they just couldn't deliver the fix without extraordinary effort, so back to just Lights.
As my addiction took control, I sought an answer other than nicotine. Must be the additives in the Marlboros. Never "needed" the Silk Cuts as much. (and Silk Cuts aren't easy to get in the US). Went to American Spirit Yellows, because they advertised that they didn't use additives. Besides, they lasted twice as long as the Marlboros which could go in a couple of minutes.
Still leary of Marlboros, I'd ocassionally buy Camel Lights when Spirits either weren't available, were too expensive, or if Tess and I were sharing (she didn't like the Spirits). I believe my last pack were Camels.
I've also bought Benson and Hedges Ultra Lights, and would smoke Marlboro Reds when I was bumming.... Now THERE was a nicotine high. I also tried pipe tobacco of different flavors (Mellow Virginia was my favorite, but hard to find). Nicorette gum entered the scene a few times, but could never give me the punch I was looking for and cost a bundle. I'm still finding little pieces of gum around the house, and throwing them out.
....
Bob (no Silk Cuts, Rothmans, Benson and Hedges, Marlboros, Camels, American Spirits, pipe tobacco, cigars, nicorette gum,
nicotine lollipops
,
nicotine lip balm
,
nicotine water,
patches
,
needles
etc. for 5 months, 2 weeks, 5 days)
