I bought my first pack of cigarettes in 1955, when I first went on holiday abroad (to Switzerland) without my parents. My brand was Peter Stuyvesant (I don't suppose they're made any more) and I smoked them and would never buy anything else for 15 years. If a shop didn't sell Stuyvesant, I'd go without cigarettes rather than buy another brand. You wanna know why ???
They came in a soft pack, and the maker gave away a tin box with a sliding top into which the pack went, to protect the pack from crushing. I just thought that was so cool. So I became a slave to nicotine, and a tin box with a sliding cover image. Oh boy. Nuff said.
