Carr's views on the importance of recognizing smoking is no habit but an addiction - and his emphasis on total deconstruction of any pleasure derived from smoking, as well as his views on cessation (immediate, right now, no NRT) are very close to yours.
IMO, he's doing too little about informing about consequences of physical withdrawal (for many people, the blod sugar plummet is going to be a nasty surprise - and Carr doesn't mention it) apart from pure nicotine craving (which he correctly states is not very strong - and he uses too little space on relapse prevention - as a quitter deriving much of his insight from understanding his own quit, he unfortunately never understood the importance of constant reinforcement and relapse prevention.'
Alas, I can't just send my brother the link - he doesn't read English, and I can't volunteer to translate it myself ...
What i can do is give him the Carr book and then, as we discuss it, say that Yes, Carr is explaining things well enough to rid him of any desire to smoke - but that desire will return, and when he does, he must remember to never take another puff!

Carsten
deeply committed to never take another puff!
