Hi everyone, welcome to my first post. I have a quit date of 8/5/2008. Whyquit, and my lurking around here has helped prepare me for this. I also printed some
materials to carry around with me during particularly stressful times (like getting over the fact that I can't hang out in the smoke shack during breaks
anymore). I started smoking when I was about 14 years old, and I had quit before, when I was around 21 years old, my ex husband and I did it together. But, I
was younger, and it was more of a rebellious "hey, I sure ain't caving in first", kind of thing. We had quit for 11 years until our marriage
broke up, and he started smoking. Then I grabbed one of his cigarettes and stupidly lit up just to try to make him mad. Yep, folks, it is true, it only takes
one. And for the past 7 years or so, I've been trying to quit again, using patches, lozenges, smoke away, nothing working for me. I found this site, and it
was like wow, only 72 hours and I hit the peak of withdrawal. I think I can handle that, an hour at a time. I unwittingly set my quit date during PMS week, and
almost changed it, but I figured if I make it through this, just think how much better I'll feel the next week. Right now I'm nursing a severe sinus
infection and ear infections in both ears, but this kind of gives me more ammunition, this is exactly what I'm trying to get away from, the chronic
infections.
Thankfully, my children are being very supportive. I have three daughters, ages 20, 11, and 8, and one son who is 2. My oldest daughter smokes, which I feel guilty about. I hope if she see that I can do it, she will do it.
I hope my ramblings make sense, my thoughts are still a little darty.
