May 6, 2004. I quit smoking. My determination finally overcame my willpower. That's all it took. I was miserable the first couple of days, and
unhappy for the first couple of weeks. But my misery was overcome by the simple fact that I was now free. Free? Yes! No longer did I have to look ahead
of time to the place I was going to make sure that there was a smoking section. Free to sit in church and enjoy the spirituality of it without thinking
about when I could smoke my next cigarette. Free to get up at 4:30 am and go to the track and RUN three miles and feel great afterwards.
Yeah, I gained a LOT of weight. But with running and such, I've lost most of it. I still have about ten pounds to remove. And I'm SO MUCH
healthier!
Nicotine definitely rules metabolism. Basically, the body burns more calories in an effort to get rid of the bad effects of smoking. I think the older you
get, the worse it is. I didn't quit smoking until I was 52 years old, after having smoked for over 30 years.
The important thing is to NOT let anyone discourage you from quitting. So what if you put on a few pounds? You can lose them. NERVOUS? Doesn't happen
once you quit smoking. I used to shake all the time, and now I never shake. Such a wonderful feeling!!!!!!
