Just a week ago I was wondering when I was going to start feeling something approaching good again. Well, here's the secret... it just sneaks up on you,
and you don't realise you're feeling it until you remember you're not a smoker any more. Then you start to realise that you're OK. There's
no big event. You're already there.
In the last few days I've felt a few unexpected surges of joy and exhilaration, and haven't even made an association with smoking/not smoking; I just felt it.
Exercise is the greatest ally you can give yourself. I've been cycling and doing a few weights - nothing hugely strenuous.
I've been feeling very emotional too; the slightest thing can bring me to the verge of tears. But it's not a sad or unpleasant sensation: far from it. They're tears of joy and appreciation of the great beauty all around me in the world, and the sense of belonging and empathy I seem to be feeling towards the earth and everything on it.
If you're still in the mire of the first few days, PLEASE take heart. It DOES and WILL get better. I promise you. Don't let it go, not this time. Commit to it again and again, and the world will conspire to help you in ways you can't imagine. You just have to open your eyes to see it.
