I've been looking at whyquit for a while so i thought i'd join up and share my experiences.
I have been smoking on and off for 20 years. I originally quit in 2004 but used NRT, big mistake, it took a good year to come off that rubbish.
For some reason, i'm really not sure, i had a huge bust up with my wife in Jan 2008, and i had just one cigarette. Since then i have been battling to stop and have kept relapsing up to about 4 weeks ago.
I had tried every method to try and stop. Willpower, NRT.
I was taking on too much, as in i believed that smoking did absolutely nothing for me, but i was thinking too far ahead. Much better to take one day at a time.
I also believe that i have failed in the past due to lack of education, now i really understand the law of addiction, its ALL or NOTHING. I'm certainly going to take the NOTHING option.
Also i'd like to add, i've no intention of going through life moping and waiting to become a non smoker. I AM a non smoker now. This is a great piece of advice to anyone.
I'd also like to say thanks to Joel, for probably saving my life. I really believed 2 months a go that i would never be able to quit, and that i would have to smoke for the rest of my life. What rubbish!! it is an illusion. Life as a non smoker really is thousands of times more enjoyable!!
Take care everyone, and never take another puff!!
