Sadly, the above fantastic 30 second youth positive peer pressure video clip has only registered 5 YouTube views when it should be going viral. I'm convinced that the power of positive student peer pressure remains the greatest untapped smoking prevention resource on earth.
Reflect upon the impact of future 30 second spots if students were taught the truth about nicotine dependency (see Joel's "Kids Just Don't Get It" article - http://www.whyquit.com/joel/Joel_07_05_kids_not_taught.html
Although in need of update and a word chisel, this 2005 slide series shows the possibilities when using hooked college students as positive peer pressure to reach and teach high school and middle school students: http://whyquit.com/Youth/Messages/Canada.html
Videos such as this Rhode Island 30 second Kick Butts middle school clip offer tremendous potential to quickly and cheaply alter an entire school's smoking perceptions. Imagine having it played during the morning message broadcast within middle schools around the globe. Imagine it being "cool" to be part of the 99 percent who don't smoke!!!
I'm going to forward this 30 second video clip to every middle school principal here in the Charleston area and ask that they consider playing it during the school's morning announcements. I encourage you to do the same in your area and to assess the feedback received. Together we can make a difference!!!Breathe deep, hug hard, live long,John - Gold x12
