Hi All,
I'm GOLD TODAY!!! I can scarcely believe it. I tried so many times to quit smoking and failed, but here I am, and I am sooo ecstatic about it!! Not very long ago "gold" seemed like an unreachable dream...and I worried that it would never get easier...thought maybe there was something wrong with me and I would never be happy without cigarettes...but I kept climbing the rope anyway, just One Day at a Time, and it worked!! Now here I am stepping onto the lido deck, and boy does this feel GREAT!!
Arresting my nicotine addiction is among the very best things I have ever done for myself. One year ago today I was a mess: I gasped for air and couldn't get enough just doing regular activities, I had developed what I call "purple toe" and other circulation problems, smoking was interfering with my job and social life, I felt constantly ashamed of myself for smoking, and other things that I am not remembering right now. Yet with all of these problems, I still could not imagine life without cigarettes. Today I can run!! I work out and go dancing and have no trouble breathing. My circulation problems have drastically improved. I look better than I have in many years. My self-esteem is growing, and I have made many other improvements to my life, such as going back to school, trying new things, and making new friends. I don't miss smoking AT ALL. I LOVE my new life and body, and only wish I had quit sooner. To all of you out there who are still actively addicted, and to all of you new quitters who may be wondering if it will ever get better: RECOVERY IS SO WORTH IT AND IT GETS WAY, WAY BETTER. I am finding the real me again at last, and it's wonderful.
I found WhyQuit.com while doing a search on the topic of Smoking and Circulation. I ran into this article: http://www.ffn.yuku.com/topic/9967, and the rest is history. I began reading, reading, and reading, and I finally understood: Oh! I am an addict! Thank you John, thank you Joel, thank you O'Bob, Marty, Joe, and all of you wonderful people who have given of yourselves over the years to make this site what it is. The knowledge and support I gained from this site has enabled me to get through every obstacle to me quitting, and to stand here today having made one full revolution around the sun completely nicotine-free!
