Remember when going to the beach meant just lying in the sun, or when going on a picnic was sitting in the grass eating yourself to oblivion? These are the pictures summertime conjured up for many smokers.
As an ex-smoker, a whole new world of activities has opened up for you. The beach can be a wonderful place to walk, jog, bicycle or even roller skate, not to mention swimming. And picnicking doesn't have to mean, "I will diet all week to make up for it." On the contrary, now you can take advantage of such occasions to burn up extra calories and even have fun doing it. Play softball, volleyball and frisbee. Take up tennis and horseback riding. Play golf and walk between the holes. Carts are for older people who can't breathe-not you!
Stopping smoking is a great step forward to improving your health. But why stop there? As an ex-smoker your endurance is improved, Activities you once thought as impossible now become simple and fun. You may have to start out slow and work up endurance, but the rewards will be worth it.
The sky is blue, the grass is green, flowers are blooming and the air is warm. It is a beautiful time of year to be alive and healthy. Take full advantage. Now more than ever the benefits of not smoking are abundant. And for all those future summers life can remain fulfilling by simply remembering this rule: "NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF"
