Don't know if people are familiar with it, but I'm currently reading "Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop
Smoking", by Allen Carr (obviously).
It's actually meant as a "quit aid" book, but I read it after I quit myself, so I'm using it mainly for
reinforcement. What do I think? I think this book's Danish translation is going to be my birthday present for my younger brother this year.
What more do I think? Well, Carr is making too much of himself and is heavily into marketing his method and making
money.
But - in the book, he's doing a really good job of debunking the reasons smokers think they have for smoking - he
recognizes that people are not scared off smoking by health hazards but because of the reasons they do smoke; these reasons are identified by him as
addiction and societal brainwashing. His way, he claims, is easy because he shows that the smoker is not giving up anything by quitting cold turkey - only
gaining.
Like I said - I think he's "marketing" too much in the book - but his debunking of the "pleasure" of smoking and
his dismissal of NRT is making this book a valuable reinforcement, at least for me.
regards
Carsten
