Wow, I was really afraid to do this. I didn't think I could really quit smoking. Amazingly (for me anyway) It has been Five Days, 20 Hours and 26 Minutes since I last smoked, and I feel great! My boyfriend and I are in this together and both doing pretty good. We had been talking about quitting for months, but put it off because "the holidays would be too stressful" Excuses, you know! Anyway in the mean time I had sent off for free samples of just about everything that is supposed to help. The plan was to try one thing, and if that doesn't work try another. While I was looking for more free products I came across this site, and started reading. It all made so much sense. I decided educated cold turkey was a way better idea. So I have been reading and learning and all the free products went in the trashcan!
I had quit smoking for 6 months about 6 years ago, and started smoking again after gaining about 15 pounds. I know, horrible excuse, the smoking is way more dangerous than the minor weight gain! But you know what happened? I became a smoker again and still had 15 pounds to lose! Which is much harder when you can't breathe!
Anyway, I did have a point. I don't want to tempt myself with the same lame excuse 6 months from now, so I am being pro-active about weight gain.
1) I am not going to substitute food for cigarettes! It doesn't really make sense to eat something to get thru a craving anyway. Instead, I will acknowledge the craving, determine the trigger, take a deep breath and remind myself that I don't smoke.
2) I am keeping a log of everything I eat. Not as a part of any diet plan. Just as a way to be sure I am not substituting.
3) I start a new exercise class today at the YMCA! I can't wait to use these newly healing lungs!
So here we are! Day 5 (almost 6) and feeling great! I didn't think it was possible, but I'm sure glad it is!
